Burlington 'coffee-table' brochure

Burlington is a company with a proud history stretching back to the sixteenth century: their stone, extracted from quarries in the English Lake District, is used for roofing, cladding and finishes to the walls and floors of prestigious commercial and domestic buildings throughout the world. Burlington came to us wanting literature to communicate to architects the benefits of the stone. We prepared a phased and costed literature plan showing a steady flow of new brochures, building up to a comprehensive portfolio covering all the main uses of Burlington stone.

We began with an attention-grabbing 'coffee-table' brochure, with high-quality photography and very little text: Stone by Burlington has been translated into French, German, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic to cater for Burlington's overseas markets. Since then we have produced a series of inspirational brochures which contain all the technical information architects require to specify the products.

As part of our literature plan we re-focused Burlington's corporate identity, shifting the emphasis away from a quarrying company to a producer of high quality natural products in a wide range of colours and textures.

Photographs of projects featuring Burlington stone and a broad band of polished green stone feature on the front cover of the brochures. As part of a programme of promotional work for the company we also produced diaries, mouse mats and a training video.

Our original literature plan has been regularly up-dated to take account of changes in technology and seven years on it remains central to Burlington's marketing strategy.

We created Burlington's first site in 1998 and in 2004 we launched a new design for Burlington's Stone site featuring a section titled 'Inspiration' which was produced in Flash. Later this year we included a worldwide product search database which contains in-depth case studies and multiple project images.
